Although full spectrum hemp CBD products are a natural, safe and effective means of supporting recovery and performance in athletes the testing and regulation of these wonderful compounds is quite different in professional and amateur sports.

We have created this section to help you, the athlete, navigate your health in an easier manner. You will find sections devoted to the various sporting leagues as well as the NCAA. We will also post links to some of the newest relevant research to assist you in making the best decisions with regards to your health, wellness, and performance.

Legalities of Sport: Hemp, CBD Products

Up until now athletes competing in both professional and high level amateur sports have had quite a predicament on their hands. As any athlete knows, injuries, sleep, and recovery are all extremely important topics when thinking about maximizing performance in both the short and long term.

Injuries tend to accumulate during the grind of a long season, and over the course of a career. Unfortunately, many careers end prematurely as a result of improper or ineffective injury recovery and the resulting compensations great athletes make in their attempt to return to high level performance.

Athletes may ask themselves — How do I deal with the pain and injuries I am accumulating in my sport and training? Until recently the most common approach was, unfortunately, man made pharmaceuticals like Oxycontin, Ibuprofen, etc.

As we all know this is not ideal as all of these have significant side effects that can disrupt your quality of life when taken in sufficient doses, or for extended periods of time. Sadly, for some, the consequences of addiction have become substantial.

There is some good news though!  Let us explain!!!!

Humans have what is known as an endocannabinoid system (Endo means internal). This system consists of receptors, enzymes, and ligands that are NATURALLY formed within the body. That’s right, you produce cannabinoids every single day and they are paramount to your success as both a human, and an athlete! In fact, cannabinoid receptors are one of the most common, if not THE most common receptors in the body! So, you could say they are important. What has this endocannabinoid system been associated with?

Our endocannabinoid system has been recently recognized as an important modulatory system in the function of brain, endocrine, and immune tissues. It appears to play a very important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to reproductive functions and regulating our response to stress. All of these systems are under significant strain in today’s society, and the negative outcomes can be witnessed in the ever increasing variety of brain conditions, infertility, and immune issues being experienced in the population.

In humans this system also controls energy homeostasis and mainly influences the function of the food intake centers of the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract
activity. The endocannabinoid system regulates not only the central and peripheral mechanisms of food intake, but also lipids synthesis and turnover in the liver and adipose tissue as well as glucose metabolism in muscle cells.

So, basically it is extremely important for not only athletic performance and recovery but day to day human performance and recovery!

When you think about the cannabinoids in your body it helps to consider a basic analogy. Let’s consider the cannabinoids in the body like fuel in your car’s gas tank. If your tank is
empty adding a little fuel at the pump will help you get going but in a short period of time you will be running low again and the engine will begin to sputter. If we keep adding a
little fuel each day we will soon have a full tank, and we can go and complete all the tasks we need to do that day with full confidence that car will keep running and have maximum output when called upon. Taking full spectrum CBD products act in the same manner. You MAY notice a difference immediately but to appreciate the maximum benefit you need to add a little to the body each day until you are full and ready to perform at your maximum!

As of January 1 st , 2018 the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) FINALLY removed cannabidiol (CBD) from the banned substances list. This was great news for athletes as
sports organizations around the world are now following suit and recognizing that athletes should not be prevented from utilizing a natural, low risk solution to dealing with painful
injuries, inflammation, anxiety, sleep disturbances and nervous system stress.

The next piece of good news?!  Major League Baseball has now removed cannabinoids from their banned list! Finally, one of north America’s major sports leagues has made the adjustment and the others can’t be too far behind!

The one misleading aspect of understanding the power of the hemp cannabinoids is that it is NOT CBD on its own that is the reason hemp is so valuable in helping athletes. Instead, it is the accumulative effect of over 100 cannabinoids within the hemp that work synergistically to improve the function of the human body.

As such CBD isolates should NOT be your first choice when picking a great hemp product! You should instead be looking for a full spectrum product.

Unfortunately, most of us have significantly strained and drained our endocannabinoid system through poor nutrition and excessive prolonged stress.

So, how can we help
replenish and rebuild this endocannabinoid system? Through the use of the exogenous (Exo means outside or external) cannabinoids! The best-known source of exogenous cannabinoids is the hemp plant and that is what Achieve DEPTH and InDEPTH Oils specializes in!
